anzania is expected to spend approximately 1.77 trillion shillings to expand school infrastructure and increase the number of teachers in order to address a significant rise in secondary school students anticipated in 2028.
The plan aims to accommodate two cohorts of students who will complete primary education at the same time, following changes in the 2014 Education and Training Policy (2023 edition), which introduced 10 years of compulsory education.
Under the new system, students who started Standard One in 2021 and those who started in 2022 will both enter secondary school in 2028, a situation expected to sharply increase demand for available spaces.
Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba stated that approximately three million students are expected to enroll in Form One that year, necessitating a major expansion of infrastructure and human resources.
According to the government, the funds will be used to construct 23,226 classrooms, 46,632 toilets, and 9,366 laboratories, as well as to recruit more than 40,000 new teachers.
The government will also continue to finance school operational grants, including textbooks, examinations, and other educational activities.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve the education system and produce a more skilled workforce.
