Fellow Tanzanians, under the steady and visionary leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania is positioning itself to become East Africa’s regional powerhouse in gas, fuel, uranium and coal.
Tanzania holds over 57 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves. The Sixth Phase Government is finalising the massive $42 billion Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, expected to be signed before June 2026. This project will produce large volumes of LNG, create over 100,000 direct jobs, generate massive government revenue, boost fertiliser industries, and provide reliable electricity for industries and homes.
On the petroleum side, discussions are accelerating for the construction of a modern mega oil refinery in Tanga. This project will process crude oil from Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, and DRC, positioning Tanzania as the regional hub for clean and affordable fuel supply.
Furthermore, Tanzania is entering a new era in uranium with the $1.2 billion Mkuju River project in Namtumbo. With reserves of 139 million tonnes, the project will place Tanzania among the world’s top 10 uranium producers. Construction begins in 2026 and will create thousands of jobs.
Coal reserves of 1.9 billion tonnes are also being harnessed through power projects such as Mchuchuma and Kiwira to support the government’s target of connecting 85% of Tanzanians to electricity.
President Samia has repeatedly emphasised that energy is the foundation of national development. Through national reconciliation, wise diplomacy, and regional cooperation, Tanzania is embracing these opportunities so that every Tanzanian youth, farmers, businesses, and ordinary citizens benefits. These projects will drive economic growth, reduce poverty, and make our country a shining example of development in Africa.
Tanzania is rising rapidly as the new regional powerhouse in gas and fuel. This is the moment to unite, participate, and build together a bright future of prosperity and economic independence.
