In today’s digital world, it is very easy for young people to get lost in a sea of words, propaganda, and political emotions spread online. However, while the noise of protests and strikes dominates some platforms, there is one bitter truth that many youths forget: those who incite the destruction of peace are often nowhere to be found when the economy collapses.
Instead of allowing themselves to be used as firewood to fuel violence, it is time for Tanzanian youth to open their eyes and see the real opportunities being prepared for them. They must understand that the peace we enjoy is not just the absence of war, but a major economic asset that opens doors to blessings and development.
These opportunities are clearly visible through the historic investments being made by the Sixth Phase Government, including the strategy for a skills revolution through VETA. As Education Minister Prof. Adolf Mkenda emphasized, a certificate alone is not enough in today’s job market. That is why the government is completing the construction of 64 VETA colleges across all districts in the country.
This move has great economic importance because it enables even a young person in the village to acquire practical skills in trades, agriculture, or electrical work right where they are, and become self-employed instead of rushing to cities without direction — something that would be impossible in an environment of chaos.
Alongside education, financial empowerment and international opportunities have opened up more than ever before. Minister Joel Nanauka has made it clear that councils nationwide are opening their funds through 10% loans for youth, women, and people with disabilities. These are targeted funds meant for starting businesses, not for wasting on the streets.
Additionally, the upcoming major event like AFCON 2027 presents a unique economic opportunity that requires disciplined youth to serve visitors and participate in construction — opportunities that will disappear if the country descends into violence and chases away investors and tourists.
Young people must realize that they are the main target of the National Development Vision 2050, which aims to formalize land and give them ownership. Anyone urging you to take to the streets today wants you to miss the chance to own property tomorrow.
It is important to remember the words of analysts: violence consumes development funds, because money meant to build new colleges or provide loans will instead be used to repair damaged infrastructure. Therefore, modern patriotism is not about making noise online, but about seizing the available opportunities, rejecting hatred, and choosing to work hard to build oneself economically while protecting the nation for future generations.
